About This Blog

This blog will be directed towards college students interested in romance novels bordering the Young Adult (YA) and New Adult (NA) spectrum, whether they are interested in getting back into recreational reading or fellow bookworms like me.
While I would not call myself an expert in the field of YA/NA romances, I have read my fair share of them throughout the years and am constantly picking up a new favorite. I started to get into recreational reading when I was a freshman in high school when my sisters were off doing sports and I wanted something of my own to do outside of school.
I can confess that I have put off homework assignments, forgone family dinners, and skipped a few social events because I had wanted to finish a book I was reading.
As I write and upload more posts for this blog, I intend on writing a couple of in-depth reviews on a couple particularly wonderful books and including a post or two that contain a list of “Top 5” within a more specific category (i.e. dystopian YA/NA romance).  In these Top 5 posts, it would be great if you would like to comment your own personal Top 5.  Who knows, we may have similar picks.
Along these same lines, I would like to encourage readers to interact in the comments.  Let me know what you think of my choices of feature posts and if you liked them or completely disagreed with my recommendations.  I look forward to seeing those comments and finding new favorites along the way.

  1. I'm going to be a little unprofessional for a moment... GURL! Okay, now that that is out of my system, I was very much like you when I was younger, hence the exclaimed, incorrectly spelled greeting. I'm ashamed to say that I have fallen out of recreational reading, and I'm not sure why. I can only speculate that when I went to college, there was so much required reading that I didn't want to do any more. I also have a hard time finding books that I actually enjoy. The past few that friends have suggested did not grab me like I would have liked. To name a few series that I love, and have read multiple times, Harry Potter, The Green Rider series, The Mortal Instruments trilogy (because 4, 5, and 6 were just dreadful and unnecessary), and The Tiger's Curse series. Please keep in mind that it has been a while since I've found a new series, so if these seem old, or if they seem like books for younger people, oh well. I enjoy them anyway, and that is what matters. So sorry, didn't mean to get snippy. I'm really looking forward to what you recommend. I hope I'll be swept away into a new story soon.

    1. Hi, Emily. I'm so excited to find a fellow book-lover! I haven't read all of the Harry Potter books, but have seen all of the movies (TOTALLY not the same, I know). One of my favorite trilogies is by Tahereh Mafi and it's called the Shatter Me trilogy. I might just be writing something about that in the future. I look forward to seeing your comments again!

  3. I am interested in seeing what books you decide to go with for this blog. Personally, I really enjoy YA novels. John Green is easily my favorite author of the genre.I feel like he has a good balance of romance and other "adventures" within his novels that set him apart from a lot of others. Do you have a favorite author within the genre?

    1. Hi, Jenna! I really enjoy John Green too, but haven't read too many of his books. Which would you recommend the most?
One of my favorite authors that hasn't written very much is Tahereh Mafi. She's written a series called "Shatter Me," and it is easily one of my favorite trilogies. I'll leave the link below for you!

  4. Out of curiosity, I have heard the term NA or New Adult used in fiction a lot lately. What age group is considered New Adult? Should older people feel shame if they read one only to discover that it is targeted at a younger audience?

    1. This is a good and easily debated question! I would say New Adult books are targeted towards 20-something readers, but that's not to say it can't be read by all. I recently read an article that stated that they believed NA books is for anyone from 14 to 35, so the genre is often seen as more open than one would think. I'll leave the URL for the article below!
